Hefei - Repair work has begun on a bridge 480 years old, in Anhui Province, east China, four months after it was destroyed by floods in summer
Zhenhai bridge, built during the Ming dynasty. (1368-1644), it was a place of state cultural relics protection in the city of Huangshan. It was destroyed by flooding during a rainstorm on July 7.
rescue operations started on Aug 12 and lasted for 19 days. More than 4,500 cubic meters of material were recovered from the damaged structure, paving the way for repair work, according to Huangshan Cultural and Tourism Office.
The repair work is estimated to cost more than 49.8 million yuan (about $ 7.5 million) and will be completed by the end of 2021, said the contractor of the project.
bridge 131 meters with seven arches was initially built in 1536 and was repaired several times in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) after being damaged by flooding.
